Kommentar/Beschreibung

This course engages with the concept of "Just Transition" and how transitions actually occur in specific regional cases. In particular, we look into places where regional economies are being restructured on a large scale due to a shift in the industrial base of the region. Our focus will be on transitions away from resource economies such as coal due to exhaustion or new environmental laws. We will engage with four case studies in four countries: Germany, South Korea, Indonesia, and Argentina. In all four countries we have cooperations with colleagues in Geography who we can contact for more inside information. Moreover, we have partnerships for student exchanges with Universities Indonesia in Jakarta and La Plata in Argentina. Thus, our class might also serve as a preparation for individual student exchange.
