Kommentar/Beschreibung

This module introduces the fundamental principles of academic research and writing in economics and business studies. Its aim is to systematically familiarize students with scientific thinking, literature research, academic writing, and the presentation of research results, thereby preparing them for independently writing academic papers later in their studies.

At the beginning of the module, key principles of scientific thinking and academic work are introduced. Students learn how to develop research questions, narrow down topics, and organize their research process. Another important component of the course is systematic literature research as well as the evaluation of the quality and reliability of academic sources.

In the section on academic writing, the course discusses fundamental requirements regarding writing style, argumentation structure, and the appropriate use of external sources, including correct citation practices and the avoidance of plagiarism. The module concludes with a discussion of how to clearly and effectively present academic content.

In addition, students receive an introduction to key research methods in economics and business. These include theoretical and conceptual-normative approaches as well as qualitative and quantitative empirical methods.

The module combines self-study phases with lecture and exercise elements and places particular emphasis on the practical application of the methods covered.
