This English-language Blockseminar examines the political, social, and economic transformations that have shaped Poland since the fall of communism, as well as the enduring structural factors that continue to influence its trajectory.
Focusing on elites, geopolitics, the economy, and the constitutional system, the course combines historical and sociological perspectives to deepen students’ understanding of both the past and present in Central and Eastern Europe.
Held over four sessions in June and July 2026, this seminar offers intensive reading and discussion of scholarly literature and public debates, alongside the analysis of artistic and cultural works. Student presentations on selected topics constitute an integral part of the course. No knowledge of Polish is required. The seminar is open to students of history, political science, Slavic studies, law, geography, and related fields.
