Kommentar/Beschreibung

This course is obligatory for students who plan to write their MA thesis in an area of English Literature and/or Culture. We will consider selected theoretical approaches, and discuss structuring the research and writing the thesis. Students have the opportunity to present their work-in-progress and will receive feedback and further suggestions.
Students who wish to attend in preparation of their BA thesis or 'wiss. Hausarbeit' are welcome to attend the colloquium as well.

In selected sessions, students preparing for their final examination (AuA = Arbeit unter Aufsicht, Staatsexamensklausur) in spring 2027 in “Anglistik Literaturwissenschaft” (based on the course ‘A Union of Love and Politics’) will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the reading material and to practice with sample questions to prepare for the exam. PLEASE NOTE: The first session for students who wish to attend the Kolloquium in preparation of their Staatsexamensklausur will be on 29 October 2026.

Finally, some sessions will be dedicated to the discussion of recent developments in the field of English literature and culture, also giving young scholars and (post)doctoral researchers the opportunity to present their work. These sessions are announced at the beginning of the teaching term and open to all students who are interested in joining our discussions.

Please note that registration for the course (deadline: 28 October 2026) via StudIP is mandatory.
