Kommentar/Beschreibung

This ASQ module can be taken as a one-semester standalone course.
UNIcert III – Speech & Debate focuses on developing students' university-level speaking, listening, critical reading, and writing skills, based on specific C1-level competences outlined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

In this module, students will learn a range of professional communication strategies, e.g., (self-)presentation, networking, negotiation & debate, intercultural communication) and will have the opportunity to sharpen and develop these communicative competencies in both written and spoken forms across a range of themes and contexts, encompassing academic and professional fields.

A particular focus will be placed on:
☐ Identifying the features of a logically structured and reasonable argument.
☐ Choosing and using evidence wisely based on audience and contextual factors.
☐ Learning how to build credibility with an audience.
☐ Anticipating intercultural communication issues.
Students will learn through readings, discussions, listening, direct observation, and practice.

The course is aimed at all students with proven, univesity-level B2 English, regardless of academic discipline, who are interested in extending their knowledge of language and its use.

UNIcert III – Speech and Debate also constitutes one component of the requirement for admission to the UNIcert III certificate examination. Please contact the module organiser for more information regarding the separately examined UNIcert III certificate.
