Comment/Description

In this course, we will analyze a variety of literary works, including novels, short stories, poems, and plays, to improve our understanding of the figure of the scapegoat, mechanisms of scapegoating and narrative and aesthetic techniques through which literature influences emotional responses and moral judgments of its readers. Focusing on the figure of the scapegoat, we will investigate how authors use narrative techniques to evoke sympathy, anger, or fear, to direct readers' attitudes towards these characters.
