Kommentar/Beschreibung

Climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution—all of these urgent human-caused problems are discussed together in the natural and social sciences under the term Anthropocene. This topic demands our immediate attention. In the seminar, we will discuss this concept's scientific and social foundations and devote ourselves to its theoretical and practical implications. This includes, for example, an introduction to Earth system theory and an examination of postcolonial and Marxist criticism of the concept of the Anthropocene. In addition, we will address what a fair, global environmental policy looks like—or should look like—in the Anthropocene and what role unevenly distributed CO2 emissions worldwide play in this.

Expectations:
Your active participation is not just encouraged; it is crucial to the success of this seminar. I expect all students to read the assigned texts thoroughly and come prepared with questions. Your readiness to talk with your peers is key. Your active involvement will shape the seminar and make it a rich learning experience for all.

Medium of Instruction:
All the assigned texts will be in English, and the medium of instruction will also be English.
