Kommentar/Beschreibung

Theoretical and practical course for the use of X-ray diffraction as an fundamental analytical tool in earth and material science.

Topics are:
- Measuring of X-ray diffraction data
- Data treatment
- Data analysis using commercial and free software tools
- Qualitative analysis of phases in natural and man made systems
- Quantitative analysis of mineral phases in natural and technical material systems
- Structure analysis using least square fitting methods
- Analysis of structure-property relations by X-ray diffraction

The course contains lab experiments and computer based analysis methods. The examination is a protocol for one research question/analysis of choice during the course.
