Comment/Description

The study of Global Christianity is a dynamic and growing field—but what do we actually mean when we talk about “global” perspectives on Christianity? And how can we study Christian histories in ways that move beyond single regions, languages, or traditions?
In this seminar, we will explore accessible key approaches and tools in global historical research (such as entangled histories, transfer and exchange, comparison, and postcolonial perspectives). Through guided discussion and selected case studies, we will learn how these frameworks help us ask new questions, connect local stories to wider contexts, and rethink familiar narratives.
Parts of the seminar will be held in conjunction with an international master’s program based at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. For these sessions, we will meet in a hybrid format, bringing our group into conversation with students and colleagues in Cluj-Napoca.
