Kommentar/Beschreibung

The lecture is given by guest professor Dr. Martha Hailu (Addis Abeba University, Ethiopia).

Regional integration, regionalism and the search for greater unity among Africans dates back to the immediate post-independence period. The course will deal with the concept of regional integration as a tool for facilitating cooperation and economic development- particularly human development- in Africa. It will examine how law has been utilized to shape regional integration processes in the continent. The course will also examine the theoretical foundations of regional integration as well as its historical evolution across the continent- with a focus on developmental regionalism. Through a comparative lens- drawing on EU’s experience, the course identifies the specific strengths, weaknesses, and obstacles encountered by various regional integration initiatives across the continent. The course is delivered through a series of weekly lectures, with occasional guest lectures.
