Comment/Description

The topic of the seminar is ordinary differential equations with periodic coefficients and ordinary differential operators with periodic coefficients. Such equations and operators appear in numerous applications including wave propagation in periodic media (e.g. photonic crystals), parametric resonance in mechanics, stability of structures under periodic loads, stability of periodic solutions (e.g. waves), etc.

The seminar will be based on the book

B. Malcolm Brown, Michael S.P. Eastham, Karl Michael Schmidt, Periodic Differential Operators, Springer 2014.

The language of instruction will be English.
