Objectives
1. Understanding Agroecological Systems and Policies: Develop a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of agroecology, and their implications for sustainable agricultural systems, rural development, and food sovereignty.
2. Analysing Governance and Policies: Critically analyse the governance structures, policies, and institutional frameworks that support or hinder agroecological practices and rural change, considering tenure security, gender perspectives, and local-global dynamics.
3. Innovation and Rural Change: Understand and assess the role of innovation in driving rural change, including the adoption of new technologies, practices, and policies that support sustainable and equitable agricultural development.
4. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Foster critical thinking skills to assess technical solutions and innovative approaches to planning agricultural systems that address issues of food economy, food sovereignty, and community participation.

- Introduction to Agroecological Systems: Principles and practices of agroecology; historical development and contemporary relevance with respect to agricultural policies.
- Sustainable Planning of Agricultural Systems: Techniques and strategies for designing and managing sustainable agricultural systems; role of biodiversity and ecosystem services. Innovative technologies and practices for sustainable agriculture; integrating traditional knowledge with modern techniques.
- Governance and Policy Frameworks: Examination of local, national, and international policies affecting agroecology; role of governance in rural development. Importance of land tenure security for sustainable agriculture; policies and practices to ensure equitable land access and use.
- Local-Global Dynamics: Impact of global trade on local agricultural practices; strategies for fostering local food systems within a globalized economy. Business models and resilience. Concepts of food economy and food sovereignty; policies and practices to support local food systems and community self-sufficiency.
- Community Participation and Empowerment: Role of community participation in planning and implementing agroecological practices; methods for enhancing community engagement. Gender Perspectives and Gender dynamics in rural areas; policies and practices to promote gender equity in agricultural systems.
- Innovation and Rural Change: innovation targets, digital divide, generational gap in agriculture. Introduction to smart agriculture; potential applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in agroecological systems, including precision farming, data analytics, and automated decision-making processes.
- Case Studies and Future Directions in Agroecology: Real-world examples of successful agroecological initiatives; lessons learned and best practices. Emerging trends and future challenges.
