Comment/Description

In the summer semester of 2026, I will offer a seminar on Gender and Trade. Over the years, globalization has contributed to increase in trade among states. The assumption that removing or lowering trade barriers will benefit both men and women equally, however, did not materialize as the different roles played by women in the society hindered them from taking advantage of the opportunities created. This indicates that economic policies should not be gender neutral as economic and trade policies play crucial role in narrowing the gender gap. The Seminar will cover multiple topics within this general framework. This will involve writing a short seminar paper of approx. 10 pages and giving a short presentation. The seminar papers are due at the end of the semester while the presentations will be made during a block course at the end of the semester. Detailed information will be provided in the preliminary meeting which is scheduled in the beginning of April 2026.
