- Summarize facts and issues and outline their interrelations
Module contents
  • Subject of the lecture is the explanation of the institutional structure and basic processes in the functional domains economy and politics. A focus will be on different aspects of structural change and their causes. The lecture will use empirical data, often of longitudinal and/ or comparative character.
  • Specific themes will be: - Market; market rules; capitalism/ firms; economic sectors - Work; labour market; occupations; professions/ trade unions; corporatism - Housing; housing market; housing policy/ consumption; brands - Law/ democracy; election systems; political parties - Associations; organizations; civil society - Education systems; science - Types of welfare state/ health; old age pensions; social benefits - Culture; religion; mass-media - Subject of accompanying seminars is an expemplary analysis of a single subject together with a detailed knowledge of institutional arrangements acquired in the course of seminar work and self-study of relevant literature
