Comment/Description

The course is structured around group interactions by way of narrative group storytelling and structured statistic based game mechanics.
The students will engage in a so-called pen-and-paper roleplaying game in which they will have to interact with one another and the instructor both as themselves, discussing complex abstract concepts and mechanics from a rule book which they will have to be able to read and understand, as well as interact with one another while acting out the part of a character they have created with a complex set of motivations to achieve both personal and common goals.
These interactions will require the students to be able to shift their communications' emotional goals, sentence structure, and tenses in real time while also having to express both implicit and explicit information with others. Any conflicts arising among the players, who may not all share the same goals in the game, must be negotiated and worked out using nothing more than their language skills.
Strategies for developing effective information flow, nuanced use of language, and discussion of abstract concepts will be discussed at great length.
In addition to reading assignments for the students to get better acquainted with the rules to be used, the students will also be writing weekly written assignments.

The goal of the course is for students to achieve C2 proficiency in English.
C2 English, as defined by the Common European Framework of References for Languages, allows a speaker to take part effortlessly in any conversation or discussion and have a good familiarity with idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms, express themselves fluently and convey finer shades of meaning precisely. If a problem does arise, the speaker can backtrack and restructure around the difficulty so smoothly that other people are hardly aware of it.
C2 production allows a speaker or writer to present a clear, smoothly-flowing description or argument in a style appropriate to the context and with an effective logical structure which helps the recipient to notice and remember significant points.
C2 listening allows the listener to have no difficulty in understanding any kind of spoken language, whether live or broadcast, even when delivered at fast native speed, provided some time is provided to get used to the accent.
C2 reading allows the reader to read with ease virtually all forms of the written language, including abstract, structurally or linguistically complex texts such as manuals, specialized articles, and literary works.
