Comment/Description

Why are anthropologists increasingly interested in ethics? Why now? The growing interest in the anthropology of ethics does not mean that ethics were ignored in the past by our discipline. Nor does it mean that anthropologists are turning to philosophy because they are running out of questions. Instead, it is the understandings of ethics as a form of practical reasoning that have tremendously changed across various academic disciplines. In this seminar we will discuss these changes and ask what the study of ethics contributes to anthropological research. Participants are expected to read anthropological, philosophical and sociological works on ethics.
