Comment/Description

How are families made, unmade, and remade in view of inequality, precarity, uncertainty and conflict? How do families and individual family members cope with the social, economic, and political fragility of intimate lives and networks? Who defines what families at the margins are and how does the state (fail to) care for families at the margins? This course offers theoretical as well as ethnographic insights into the anthropology of social relationships with a specific focus on kinship in crisis.
