Teilnehmende The course is for master students interested in the environment, politics, and development at an international level.
Voraussetzungen It is desirable but not a must that students have background knowledge in International Relations, Development Studies, Resource Economics, Agricultural Sciences and Policy, Environmental Policy, Political Sciences, International Law or similar disciplines at the intersection of natural and social sciences. Registration in StudIP is required to participate in the course and in Löwenportal for taking the oral exam (more information will follow).
Lernorganisation Overall, the course is organized through a mixture of interactive lecture materials combined with student presentations and discussions aimed at improving comprehension skills and critical thinking on the various subjects related to Global Environmental Policy and Sustainability Governance.
Studiengänge (für) The course is open to master-level students from study programs “Agricultural Sciences”, “International Area Studies” and “Management of Natural Resources”, while others interested in global environmental policy can join upon mutual agreement.

Kommentar/Beschreibung

The course is designed to improve understanding of Global Environmental Policy and Sustainability Governance (GEP) and challenges associated with implementing effective GEP through theories from Political Sciences, International Relations, Economics and Environmental Sciences. Key players in GEP such as the United Nations, transnational corporations, state and non-state actors and some of the key concepts that are debated since the beginning of the global environmental movement till present will be discussed.
