Kommentar/Beschreibung

One of the most renowned short fiction writers and 2013 winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Alice Munro has been a celebrated voice not only in Canadian literature since the publication of her first story collection in 1968. Our seminar will discuss several of Munro’s short stories in order to explore general characteristics of short fiction, and to identify particular qualities of Munro’s work such as retrospective narration, the short story cycle, and the Ontario Gothic. We will also approach Munro as a regional writer, whose stories address general human concerns such as loneliness, love, family, death, loyalty, and violence in connection with the conventions of Canadian small-town life, of gender, and sexuality.

Prüfungsleistung:
• Term paper (8.000-9.000 words)
