Comment/Description

This seminar will try to explore the significance of class in British culture. Notoriously difficult to grasp or define, to outsiders sometimes impenetrable in its fine nuances, social class appears to occupy a place of great importance in British society and culture, despite decade-long claims about Britain's development towards a classless nation. We will approach the topic from a variety of angles, including examples from diverse cultural expressions, such as literature, the arts, and music but also on a level of language and discourse. Furthermore, social research perspectives will also be of importance.
