Translation is an interesting and often challenging activity which forces the translator to consider a variety of difficulties involved in transferring meaning from one language into another. She/He is often confronted with both cultural and linguistic differences between the first language and the target language which can make translating more complicated than it would appear at first glance. However, finding solutions to these problems, or in some cases realising why certain things are untranslatable, can provide considerable insight into how the target language works. The participants will be expected to do translation work in preparation for the class every week.
