Kommentar/Beschreibung

Course outline:
This newly designed course will be taught jointly with Dr. Britta Schulze-Thulin, a specialist in Celtic languages. We aim at giving an overview of how English and Celtic languages co-exist(ed) and interact(ed) on the British Isles.

Nowadays, the British Isles are primarily associated with English and a Celtic fringe in parts of Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. But, originally, both islands were Celtic-speaking long before the Anglo-Saxons arrived in England in the 5th century AD. In a synchronic-diachronic approach we will have a look at the language situation in the past and in the present in the following areas: England, Wales, Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man.

Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
