The art of producing a good text requires a degree of inspiration, but far more importantly it requires certain skills and a lot of practice. The aim of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to practise the skills needed for advanced literacy by dealing with different topics and text types, investigating the purpose and design of specific texts, and sharpening the “tools” which are necessary to produce them. Participating students will continue to expand the lexical and grammatical resources they can draw on, further develop their ability to organise ideas, information and arguments, learn more about text cohesion, and enhance their awareness of register in order to be able to write successful texts that communicate effectively and convincingly to the reader. Text analysis and writing tasks will take place both in and outside of class.
