Sonstiges | Caribbean literature is incredibly diverse concerning linguistics, history, and subject matter. This class will focus on a particular subset of Caribbean literature: Anglophone fiction written by authors of Caribbean descent or Caribbean authors residing in the United States. Omnipresent topics will be colonialism, national histories, migration, diaspora, displacement, race, and a longing for the so-called American Dream. The syllabus includes canonical authors of the 20th and 21st century, such as Edwidge Danticat, Jamaica Kincaid, and Junot Díaz, as well as lesser known writers. While we will mainly be reading, analyzing, and discussing classic prose fiction, novels and short stories, we will also be taking an excursion into poetry. |
