Comment/Description

Non scholae, sed vitae discimus said the old philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca, a representative of the Stoic school who died in 65 A.D. In a world of rapid change and global intertextuality we are going to put his tenet to the test.
Curricula have a tendency to contain contents which
often appear to be lacking not only personal but also
collective relevance. But: “Appearances can be
misleading.” (The Faerie Queene II, XLL. 66) Even
if you find it impossible to apply your knowledge to
the realities surrounding you, it might well be that
you have not learned how to do it. This is why an
educational canon makes sense only if it can be
adapted to individual needs, competences and
experiences as well as to cultural and social
requirements.
Lifelong learning is a never-ending, constructive, and conscious process of meaning creation which constantly asks for a critical and analytical equation of external and internal reality.
