Comment/Description

Fundamentally, the lecture tries to address the question how government spending and taxing activities affect the economy. Moreover it discusses the optimal design of public finances to maximize social welfare. The lectures covers several topical policy issues such as how to cope with international tax competition, how to set up redistributive tax schemes, how to efficiently provide public goods, and many more. Among other things, the lecture tries to clarify the influence of behavioral aspects of market agents (altruism, inattention or ignorance, hyperbolic preferences) on government policies.
