Module assignments

Comment/Description

The course provides insights into the transformation from the present linear economy to a sustainable circular economy. Current political and economic strategies, such as the EU circular economy package, are discussed and their effectiveness is examined.

Willingness to study recent literature and engage in discussions is expected.

The course treats the following points:

- The need for a circular economy: resource depletion and negative externalities
- The Paris Climate Accord and further drivers of a circular economy
- R-framework of circularity (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover…)
- New need for raw materials in a circular economy: renewable energy and critical raw materials
- substitution and design strategies for CE
- popular political and business strategies for CE
- How to change the throwaway mindset?

The Course refers to a lot of current examples, like rare earths and plastic pollution.
