Comment/Description

This course examines how the English language has developed through history and how it is used across the globe today by providing an outline from its fifth-century beginnings to the diversity of the language today. We will explore the processes of variation, hybridity and change in English, and also the shifting styles of individual speakers. The focus is on the international nature of English and its use alongside other languages in a diverse range of speech communities.
