Veranstaltung ist ein Aufbaumodul Kulturwissenschaft II, Teil 2. Es richtet sich (primär) an Studierende in BA IKEAS 120, BA Anglistik und Amerikanistik 90/60 LP und LAG, LAS, LA-Förd.

The characteristics of the physical world surrounding us have always had great influence on mankind's existence. Simultaneously, mankind has been shaping and drafting landscapes since the beginning and transforming them from nature to a part of Culture. In literature, films, photography, and paintings we may encounter real and even imagined places. All the landscapes mirror social, political and cultural values. or, as K. Schloegel said: In space we can read time. Westminster, Thamesmead, Glastonbury, Chapelcross, the Brighton Pier: Landscapes change and so does our perception of what resembles the British landscape.
In the seminar participants will acquire necessary skills for analysing contemporary space(s) and landscapes as a fundamental category within Cultural Studies. Topics for presentations may range from spatial questions that address the (highly symbolic) cities to questions dealing with the (increasingly popular and sought-after) rural spheres, but are not limited to that. Themes such as gender, politics of space, ecology, tourism, and virtual reality may also provide interesting points when discussing selected British landscapes.
Please do not forget to prepare the texts linked here in StudIP (see tab "Informationen") _prior_ to the first meeting (Oct 07). It is one part of the "Literaturstudium" and constitutes (among other tasks) your "Studienleistungen" as explained in the "Modulhandbuch" necessary for completing the "Modul".
