Comment/Description

From Renaissance to Revolution: Society, Politics, and Culture in Early Modern England (1485 to 1688)

The lecture course will give a comprehensive overview of socio-economic aspects, (Renaissance) culture, religious debates, and political developments and institutions of early modern England, the historical period that laid the foundation to the subsequent emergence and character of modern Britain. The sessions will cover the two centuries from the Tudor succession to the throne after the War of the Roses to the so-called Glorious Revolution, which abolished absolute monarchy in Britain.

There will be unmarked assignments over the course of the teaching time, and a final written exam. Further details of these assignments will be explained in the first session.

Please note that prior registration (deadline: 14 October 2018) for the course via StudIP is mandatory.
