This course introduces both Chinese language and non-Chinese language students to aspects of Chinese law, economy and culture through the use of lectures, videos, newspaper, web articles and stories. The course provides an overview of the basic institutions of legal system that is operating in Mainland China, and the fundamental concepts in the core areas of Chinese Law. The topics also include the history of a modern Chinese economy, the principles that guided China’s institutional reforms. What’s more, the course also help students to have a basic understanding of Chinese culture such as living style, folk custom, myth, etc. The course takes an interdisciplinary approach, making it an introduction to students who are interested in Chinese law, economy and culture.
